" You can't use up CREATIVITY, the more you use the more you have"-Maya Angelou
Long Story Short..I have always had a creative mind, and as I got older I developed an analytical one. I needed to know why things worked the way they did, how I could make them better, and how changing your physical environment created different experiences. I obtained my Interior Design and Business education from Western Michigan University. My first job after graduating was working as a lead visual merchandiser at one of the largest residential furniture companies in the mid-west. THIS IS where my love for retail environments and design began. I won multiple showroom awards and collection contests through my decade of being on the floor and it fueled my passion. The practice of using interior design to promote sales, and being able to see the impact that my design decisions made, became a driving force in me. While working as a visual I was able to volunteer and work alongside my Alma mater. In 2016, I was awarded Alumni of the year which kicked off my journey to becoming a college professor. THIS IS where my passion to empower others to tell their story through design developed. Fall 2016... I was a first time professor and was only FIVE days away from the semester starting when I was hired. Was I CRAZY?? YES... Becoming a professor so young was terrifying but also one of my proudest accomplishments. There are no words to describe the lessons I learned while teaching multiple classes of talented young designers in drafting, space planning, design processes, and computer aided programming to support their solutions. After working with these young designers, and helping them develop concepts into design solutions...I was HOOKED on using design as a tool to EMPOWER others. I worked as a professor for the remainder of my years living in Kalamazoo. |
Since the pandemic I have been teaching a virtual course for the program focusing in CAD and SketchUp applications for Interior Designers.
